Mahogany Flyer

mf r.jpg

Mahogany Flyer was the first in this series. Every place I have lived in my life has been in the close proximity of water so the mystery of what lies beneath has always intrigued me.  Growing up near the warm coastal waters of Florida gave me the opportunity to explore the magnificent variety of shapes and colors of those creatures living beneath the surface. On this piece, the body is made from a single piece of Indonesian mahogany recycled from a very heavy shelving unit. The wings and landing gear are of American white ash and the wheels of walnut. It measures approximately 6 ft in length, with a four-foot wingspan and 3 1/2 ft. height.
